Syfy will air the first episode of the supernatural drama series Haven on July 9th at 10/9c, based on the novella “The Colorado Kid,” from renowned author Stephen King. “Haven is the quintessential Stephen King town, full of complex, yet identifiable, characters and compelling supernatural situations.
Deep in the heart of Maine, Haven is a town where people with supernatural abilities have migrated for generations because it mutes their powers, allowing them to lead normal lives. At least, until recently. When hot-shot FBI agent Audrey Parker is called to Haven to solve the murder of a local ex-con, she catches the killer but uncovers a much deeper mystery about this town. Each week, as the town- peoples’ dormant powers begin to express themselves, Audrey will try to keep these supernatural forces at bay while unraveling the many mysteries of Haven – including one surrounding her own surprising past in this extraordinary place.
Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama was published in 1972 and was awarded both the prestigious sci-fi literary awards the Hugo and Nebula. Rendezvous With Rama is one of four Rama stories that are set in the 22nd century and details a fifty-kilometer-long cylindrical alien starship that enters Earth’s solar system.
The manned solar survey vessel Endeavour and it’s 20 man crew is rerouted to study Rama. The team enters Rama and explores the vast 16-km wide by 50-long cylindrical world of its interior, but the nature and purpose of the starship and its creators remains enigmatic throughout the book. The only lifeforms are the cybernetic “biots” who completely ignore the humans, and who are busy all about the spacecraft, appearing to be prepping Rama for a major upcoming maneuver.
It’s hard to believe that to date no film adaptations of this marvelous science fiction novel have been attempted. Now at last, thanks to the visual media by Aaron Ross and Vancouver Film School student sound designer, Philip Mahoney, we finally get a glimpse of just what Rendezvous With Rama might look and sound like if given the full movie treatment.
The film was created by Aaron Ross when he attended the Tisch School Of The Arts in 2001 and Phil Mahoney provided the sound design while attending the Sound Design For Visual Media program at Vancouver Film School last year. Consequently the piece was chosen out of many to be featured on the official VFS Youtube channel, Vimeo and iTunes, among others. Primarily a composer Mahoney said of the piece, “It was an absolute blast to record, edit and mix all of the sound for the film, including the original score”.
For obvious reasons, Ross was not able to include everything that happens in Clarke’s detail rich novel in this short animation. However, he manages to feature some key moments from the novel in this superbly done animation.
If you haven’t had quite enough – here is a short making of film that we are sure you will find interesting.

The Doomsday clock, a measurement of the threat posed by nuclear weapons, biotechnology, and climate change, has been moved back one minute, to six minutes before midnight, signaling a more “hopeful state of world affairs.”
This special F/X-laden five-minute robot invasion flick is about giant robots coming to destroy a city.
The director Fede Alvarez says: “It took $300 US to shoot the live action, and then maybe a year to complete the 90 vfx shots (during very interrupted periods…) I used Premiere, After, Photoshop, 3dMax, Boujou, Glu3d, and FumeFx. The modeling, mapping and rigging of the Robots, fighters and planes was made by Mauro Rondan.
Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin has revealed that there is a ‘monolith’ on the moon of Mars, Phobos. On July 22, during an interview on CSPAN’s Washington Journal, Aldrin mentioned the monolith when he was promoting further exploration and development of the moon as well as going to Mars.
Aldrin’s statement reinforces comments made by other astronauts that extraterrestrial vehicles were present during at least the first moon landing. It also raises questions such as ‘who really put the monolith there and how does Aldrin know about it?’
Actually, a lot of people know about it. This revelation by Aldrin is referencing to a picture taken in 1998 by the Mars Global Surveyor. According to the dictionary, a monolith is a geological feature such as a mountain, consisting of a single massive stone or rock. Here’s a picture of the monolith.

“They Wouldn’t. The IHC will.”
IHC Mission Statement: Our mission is to ensure the survival of the human race beyond 2012.
In November of 1978, a small group of the world’s most powerful business leaders and former government officials convened a summit in Timaru, New Zealand to assess possible threats to humankind. Based on a mysterious 5th Mayan Codex found in Guatemala by IHC anthropologist, Dr. Joshua H Corrigan, PhD. Top scientists outlined their research indicating that in the year 2012, a series of factors would align, resulting in the destruction of the entire world.
Those at the summit agreed to invest significant resources in the formation of an international committee with two goals: to continually monitor the threat of 2012 and develop plans to guarentee the survival of the human race. This covert network became known as the Institute for Human Continuity (IHC).
For the nex 30 years, the IHC operated in secret, organizing research initiatives in hundreds of field locations around the world. In 2004 IHC scientists confirmed with 94% certainty that in 2012 cataclysmic forces will decimate the planet and much of it’s inhabitants. Yet the governments of the world refused to listen.
In 2008 the IHC agreed to go public, to educate the global citizenery of the threat and invest in emergency initiatives that would guarantee the continuation of the human race beyond 2012. Though many will not survive 2012, The IHC has always sought to ensure the end of the world is just the beginning for mankind.

These stunning images show mysterious columns of light streaming into the sky above the town of Sigulda in Latvia at the end of last month. Taken by Aigar Truhins with a standard digital camera, the photographs have prompted excited online discussions among amateur astronomers. ‘
Experts agree there may be a more common explanation – ice crystals in the air. The air above the town was notably cold and filled with suspended ice crystals. It is believed that the columns were formed by those reflecting light from the bright streetlamps and other lights on the ground – beaming it back downwards again. Skies all over Europe have been filled with such natural phenomena during the cold snap of recent weeks.
The lights were said to be a reflection caused by the light from streetlamps on the ground hitting ice crystals suspended in the cold air Scientists at the website spaceweather.com said: ‘Truhin’s pillars are not the ordinary kind. Even leading experts in atmospheric optics can’t quite figure them out ‘These pillars are mysterious. They have unexplained curved tops and even curved arcs coming from their base. ‘Arcs in rare displays like these could be from column crystals to give parts of tangent arcs, others could be the enigmatic Moilanan arc or even the recently discovered reflected Parry arc. We do not know – so take more photos on cold nights!’
