For years the question ‘Which came first the chicken or the egg?’ has perplexed the experts. Now British scientists say they have discovered the answer – the chicken.
Researchers at Sheffield and Warwick Universities, worked years on the project and now claim to have the proof they need to say that the chicken came first. The scientists have discovered that a protein found only in a chicken’s ovaries is necessary for the formation of the egg. The egg can therefore only exist if it has been created inside a chicken.
The protein speeds up the development of the hard shell, which is essential in protecting the delicate yolk and fluids while the chick grows inside the egg, the report said.
“It had long been suspected that the egg came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first,” said Dr Colin Freeman, from Sheffield University’s Department of Engineering Materials.
“The protein had been identified before and it was linked to egg formation, but by examining it closely we have been able to see how it controls the process,” he said.
The discovery was revealed in the paper ‘Structural Control Of Crystal Nuclei By An Eggshell Protein’.

How appropriate I was sitting down to add a new posting and I just happened noticed that this will be post #222. But of course that’s always the way it happens and my weird relationship / obsession with the number 222 continues.
I casually notice it on the clock, in the date, sitting in traffic staring at people’s license plates, on receipts, in telephone numbers, seat numbers, the address of the first house I bought was 222, as well as my first apartment—on and on and on. It’s possible to say I’ve just become more in-tune with subconsciously looking for the number but yet it seems to be everywhere without much need to look. Often I see it and feel the power of a good omen—while other times it has quite the opposite feeling associated with seeing it. I fear I’ve even transferred seeing this number to several of my friends who now seem to notice it as well.

This new addition to my collection of tattoos has quickly become a favorite. Comprised of traditional tattoo elements, this Tom Davis original utilizes a stylized bomb, some fire inspired wings, the number 222, and a scroll / banner reading “Stay True“.
Completed in just over 3 hours and 1 sitting, Tom’s style, speed and quality continues to shine. The linework, shading and highlights all combine to make a very sweet piece of art that I’m, very proud of. As always thanks to TommyD for his time and efforts. I highly recommend contacting Tom for your next tattoo.
So last Sunday (2/22/09) I attended my first Ohio State basketball game. My good friend, Rick Smith called the Friday before with an offer of an extra ticket. Having never been—I thought it would be a wonderful way to spend a cold, dreary Ohio day in February. As we drove through campus we passed Ohio Stadium, despite sitting quiet and empty it gives me goosebumps. You can feel the energy emanating from the massive structure on the banks of the Olentangy River. After parking and a short walk we made our way inside to our seats, despite sitting in the nosebleeds 15 or so rows from the top we had a great view of the entire court.
I have a reoccurring number (222) that I see everywhere. There is no rhyme or reason to it’s pattern except that it seems to follow me through life. Sometimes when I see it I’m excited and take it as a good omen while other times it must point to my guilty conscience. On this day my number was out in force. Although I had already realized the date February 22nd, 2009 is a manifestation of my numerical shadow. Both as February is the 2nd month of the year and 2009 also aligns with the 22nd day—pretty cool! Sitting there talking with Rick, waiting for the game to start I was checking out my ticket and noticed that my trio of deuces hadn’t finished with me just yet. Aside from the date printed on the ticket the event codes located in both of the upper corners was listed as S0222 and ES0222. Perfect three sets of three twos.
Sadly to say the triple deuces failed to deliver good luck and my beloved Buckeyes couldn’t pull it out against a Fighting Illini team that seemed to hit everything just when they needed to. But it was an exciting game, a great way to spend a day with a friend and a real treat to see the Buckeyes, Value City Arena and The Shottenstien Center up close and personal for the first time.
